The Baseltor

The small hotel has been established in a former cannonhouse from the 17th century opposite the Cathedral in the old town of Solothurn. Solothurn, the beautiful baroque city, is situated on the river Aar at the southern foot of the Jurassic Mountains with a view of the magnificent Alps in the distance.

Old stonesteps lead to the six rooms installed in 1992 overlooking either the Cathedral, the old town or the patio (Design-Award 1993, Ecology-Award 1996).

The restaurant on two floors and the lively bar, a favourite meeting place for the local population, have been run by dedicated enthusiast since 1978. The imaginative menu which offers traditional Swiss, mediterranian dishes as well as Indian and Asian food is changed daily. Mainly fresh local produce is used; prices are moderate (13 points in the Gault Millau Guide Switzerland). In summer you can sit outside under the vine and enjoy the hustle and bustle in the streets and the squares.
